Everything You Need to Know About the NEW Troop Camping Badges
First - an overview of Girls' Choice
For the last three years, GSUSA has offered the Girls' Choice model. Girls vote online for topics they're most interested in to become future badges. GSUSA takes the winning topics and develops badges around the chosen theme, and releases them first for digital download in the online store ($0.99) and then later to purchase the packet ($2.50) and the badge itself ($3).
Past releases include Outdoor Exploration and Outdoor Art themes, all available here. This year's theme, "Troop Camping," debuted TODAY, June 15, and we're pumped.
One exciting change in this round, compared to the previous two debuts, is that there is a new Daisy badge!!
Next - the basic layout of a badge
The standard format for badges is that each badge has 5 steps that are required to be completed in order to earn the badge. Each step, however, had 3 choices of activities for how to complete that step. AND, girls and troop leaders always have the ability to customize by substituting a comparable activity in order to complete a step.
The new Daisy badge is a little bit different - it has only 3 steps, and each step only has 2 choices. This makes sense in terms of progression, as girls move from petals toward badges and learn to work within more structure.
Official badges (including Girls' Choice badges like these) go on the front of the uniform (vest, sash, or tunic).
And now - the badges!
